About 4 days ago, my team and I went out into the streets of Farnham to create a video for TV on Christmas shopping. Having previously done a vox pop, it felt like it was going to be a piece of cake.

Initially we sate down and wrote out all the questions that we could think of, then before we headed off we came together and agreed on the most suitable questions to ask the public that would easily summarize “Christmas shopping in Farnham” The video began by introducing our correspondent, Chantal Grosschopp, she introduced herself and did a brief but concise introduction to Christmas Shopping in Farnham, mentioning the recession and how it has affected the way people shop for Christmas presents. After this was done and dusted, Jonathan Holdstock went on to interview the lucky shoppers and sales assistants. This included one fireman just about to get aboard his fire engine, “I love this time of the year and I think ill be buying some football boots, this year.” Shauna Shearwood, filmed all the major retail stores in the Lion & Lamb complex, and also filmed people shopping in Argos, while Jonathan interviewed one of the sales assistants. Shane Donaldson did the voice over this was short and precise! Shauna filmed the whole thing, while I did the link in the TV studio...and I loved it!

After this task was complete I watched my first link that I did 2 weeks ago on the Berlin Wall, and the one I did presently. I believe I have learnt a lot from this task and my voice has become a lot clearer, and my posture has improved. Having done the voice training, stretching, pronunciation of words, and posture I spotted quite a lot of improvements and I learnt how to improve on speech, and learnt to stop swinging on my chair!!

I believe my group and I, have dramatically improved however, we could of interviewed some people actually shopping in a store and not outside on the street.

Writing for print is a lot more complicating than writing for TV, or Radio. While TV and Radio is brief, Print requires a lot more words and thinking. When writing questions for vox pops, it is important to write accurate and precise questions, so that you can derive the perfect and precise answer your after.

The video on Christmas shopping is going through some problems and has refused to upload. However, the problem will be resolved and this will be uploaded shortly.

VOX POP

VOP POP ON REMEMBRANCE DAY

Everyday in life we learn something new!

I do not know whether I should be ashamed, of the fact that I had no idea what a VOX POP, meant, before I embarked on this journalism course.

However, I am very pleased to say I am glad that I have learnt about it, and I no longer have to go on google.com when someone asks me to define the word!

Going out into the streets of Farnham, and looking for people to interview was the easiest part of this task; well I speak for myself when I say that! We asked five people questions on 'Remembrance day' and what their views and opinions were on this anticipated event.

The turnout was quite successful, well I hope so!!

Each member of my team interviewed a Farnham resident, asking them questions on Remembrance Day and how they felt about the controversial issue. The role I played in the task was looking for people to interview, asking them a question that summarizes my question, precisely and also gives me a positive and clear response. I also assisted Oliver Marsh (one of my team members) in editing the vox pop. To be fair he did most of this himself, but I made myself available and gathered equipment for him.

This task was, one task that I truly and thoroughly enjoyed, like everything we do in life, there were ways in which we could improve, especially in the recording. After, Martin's and Sean's TV and Radio lesson about clearing your throat and exercises that improve your voice, and pronunciation of words, such as Thorough, and Thank, and words hat require proper pronunciations. I feel that my team members and I could of done a much better job, if we did these 5 seconds useful exercises. Another major let down was during the production and editing, most of our interviews were cut out, during the editing. This was one factor that we could not resolve, so once it was gone, it was gone.

Conclusively, I am very pleased with the result, and I believed my team and I did a great job! Hard work really does pay off!!

A few weeks later, we were asked to do a vox pop for print, and the job was done before the blink of an eye! However, it was lot different and easier than doing a vox pop for radio.

The Audio piece has been uploaded.
